Siren Flower News

Our next show is on September 21, 2024 at The Bundy in Binghamton, NY.

Our Music

Listen to Sirenflower's music below.

Reflections feature one of the hallmarks of Sirenflower's style: heavy grunge juxtaposed against mellow Goth-like melodic sections.

Silence is Sirenflower's form of a Gothic ballad. An emotional and virtuosic showpiece for vocalist Dave Hatt, the song also features the band's evolving use of haunting countermelodies on synth.

Somewhere is Sirenflower's undisputed signature song. Syncopated and catchy rhythms underlie Dave's powerful vocals. We dare you  to try not to move your body while listening to this grungy earworm.

About

A Brief History of Sirenflower

  • Before Sirenflower

Eric Roth was in some bands before Sirenflower. One of them was called The Cannibals Gone Trendy. Eric also played Bass for a band called Thelonious Monk, which was the earliest incarnation of Yolk (one of the most successful bands to come out of Binghamton).

  • Where it all began...

Sirenflower is a goth/grunge band active in Binghamton, NY from 1990-1993. The original members of the band are: Dave Hatt (vocals), Eric Roth (Guitar), Steven Hine (Bass), and Lou Massa (Drums). Later Carol Mapes (Keyboards) was added to the band.

  • Musical influences...

All the members of the band were listening to music of the late 80's and early 90's. Some music style influences include: punk, prog metal, funk, grunge, art rock, and avant-garde. Band influences include: Voivod, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dead Kennedys, Janes Addiction, Soundgarden, Danzig, Fields of the Nephilim, Sisters of Mercy, Christian Death, Bauhaus, and Sonic Youth.

  • Music in Binghamton

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Binghamton rock music scene was dominated by three types of bands: mainstream/classic rock, heavy metal, and punk. Sirenflower grew out of the punk scene. The lineups of the band's earliest shows included local punk stalwarts such as Abalienation, Akademy Shred, The Meat Department, and others. Before long, however, Sirenflower joined a small group of other bands including Yolk, Tate's Baby, and Mind at Large (from Elmira) that were seeking to provide a contrast to the usual nightclub fare in the Southern Tier. These bands often paired up to play shows together and developed a largely mutual local following (including some dedicated friends and fans who frequently volunteered to work as roadies and run lights and sound).

  • Previous shows...

The band played venues in Binghamton such as The LIE, The Taz, West Side Cheers, Bourbon Street, and the SUNY Binghamton Student Union Building, as well as The Haunt and Max’s in Ithaca and The Lost Horizons and Fuoco's in Syracuse. Sirenflower also played at the legendary CBGB in New York City.
